YouTube Music 2023 Recap is here to take on Spotify Wrapped, Apple Music Replay

The question of what’s our absolute favourite song often leaves us stumped, because we’re unable to decide. It is precisely for this reason, that every year, we eagerly wait for Spotify Wrapped and Apple Music Replay. They’re a way to share our most loved tracks of the year with our loved ones. Now, adding to this list is YouTube Music.

YouTube Music 2023 Recap offers listeners a chance to understand their preferences, listening habits, and more. That’s not all though. It also has a few neat tricks up its sleeves. Read on to find out just what they are, and how to access them.

How to access the YouTube Music 2023 Recap

Viewing your 2023 recap on YouTube Music is an extremely simple process, and involves only three steps.

1. Open the YouTube Music app on your smartphone.

2. Make sure you’re signed in to your YouTube Music account.

3. Tap on your profile picture and hit “Your Recap.”

Once done, YouTube Music will show your top five artists, songs, moods, playlists, as well as albums and playlists. It will also tell you your longest continuous listening streak, as well as how many minutes you listened to music on the platform in 2023, on the whole.

Each of these stats can be viewed, downloaded, and shared, on your stories across social media platforms, the way you can with Spotify Wrapped. Moreover, the feature is also being bridged to the main YouTube app, where users can view the same stats and insights as well.

Other features to watch out for

That’s not all though. YouTube Music’s 2023 Recap has also introduced three cool new features – custom album art, music moods, and the ability to pair your favourite music with Google Photos memories.

1. Custom album art

YouTube Music Recap creates customised album art for you, by pulling visuals and colours from your top songs, your “energy score” and your top moods.

2. Music moods

This feature automatically classifies your top songs into mood categories of sorts, which it figures out based on an algorithm, to identify music that closely matches each of the moods that you may experience on a day-to-day basis – such as happiness, anger, energy, romance, and more.

3. Pair Google Photos memories with your top songs

Last year, YouTube Music introduced shareable cards using which you could highlight your top songs from each season, by adding photos directly from your Google Photos library. This time around, with 2023 Recap, you can also shuffle and customise your photos, and pair them with your music to create a unique, shareable visual.
