YouTube may allow users to create remixes with AI

Imagine an AI tool that can convert a fast-paced rap song into a soothing melody. Wondering how? Well, YouTube may just be able to with a tool it is testing. The generative AI tool will not only be able to remix an audio track for Shorts but will also allow users to experiment with existing songs and create their own unique 30-second versions to elevate their videos. Here is everything to know about this feature.

How will YouTube's AI-generated remix work?

Creators will be able to pick any song from a list of eligible songs and explain their changes to AI with a text-based prompt. YouTube will allow them to adjust elements, such as the genre or mood, to give it a fresh twist.

Once done, AI will generate a new version of the song that keeps the feel of the original intact, and additionally incorporate the creator’s ideas. This feature will only be applicable for Shorts and the company mentioned how users will be able to monetise these videos.

YouTube will provide proper credits to the original song in the Shorts and on its audio page as well. Moreover, the platform will also mention that the track has been remixed using AI.

It is important to note that this feature is a part of YouTube’s Dream Track program and is currently available to a select group of creators.

What is YouTube’s Dream Track program?

Launched in November 2023, Dream Track is powered by Google’s AI team called DeepMind. Around the time of the launch, YouTube allowed a select group of US creators to use AI-generated voices of well-known artists.

Over the years, it has been made available to all creators in the US. The feature also announced partnerships with Universal Music and popular musicians like John Legend, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, T-Pain and Troye Sivan.

The company has not revealed any plans for the release of its Dream Track tools to the public. YouTube is also testing a feature that will let users move to a new video using swipe-up gestures similar to YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels.
