You may soon be able to upload 10-minute Instagram Reels

Instagram has recently been reported to be working on a feature which allows for users to share Reels up to 10 minutes long. The feature was first spotted and reported by leaker Alessandro Paluzzi via a post on X (formerly twitter). Instagram seems to be playing catch-up with rival TikTok, which allows for users to record and upload videos up to 10 minutes long for free.

What’s more, a paid plan also increases this limit to up to 20 minutes. YouTube allows for all users to upload videos up to 15 minutes long. However, those with verified accounts can even put-up videos up to 12 hours long.

As per Engadget, Meta confirmed that the screenshots uploaded by Paluzzi are authentic. However, the company says that the feature is an internal prototype as of now and hasn’t been released for external testing yet.

Other Instagram Features to look out for

Instagram made its foray into the short-format video years ago. Since then, it has added several new features to aid users in creating content quickly and easily.

One of the most recent such features is the Template Browser, which lets creators replicate certain viral videos they like, and make it their own. They can browse through templates while making a Reel and extract specific templates of their choosing. Also, they can also grab elements such as audio, smaller clips and AR effects.  All users have to do is fill in the template with their own clips, and that’s that. Their new Reel is good to go.

With this feature, Meta seems to be going all out to establish its dominance, looking to compete with TikTok, YouTube and Snapchat. It has also introduced a text-based microblogging app – Threads, which is a direct competitor to X, formerly Twitter. Several new features have also been introduced on its instant messaging platform WhatsApp, which is looking to compete with mainstream meeting platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Google Meet.
