You can now add a song from Instagram to your Spotify library; here’s how

A cross-over we weren't expecting, but we're certainly not complaining!

You can now add a song from Instagram to your Spotify library; here’s how

When you hear a song on Instagram you like, you first have to tap on it to see more details. Since Instagram often only plays the hook or a part of the song, your next steps often mean bouncing on to other apps like Spotify to find and listen to the entire song. But what if we tell you that you might not have to go over these steps at all?

Instagram and Spotify have announced a new partnership that will soon allow users to seamlessly add songs from Instagram stories directly to their Spotify playlists. Here’s how it will work.

Instagram and Spotify join hands: What's there to know?

Instagram and Spotify can now be linked, giving users the ability to instantly save Instagram tracks to their Spotify library, without leaving the social media app at all.

Instagram already allows users to share music clips in Stories. However, this move adds a new layer of interaction by turning a user’s passive discovery into an active engagement.

Spotify, in turn, benefits from enhanced visibility while being one of the most popular media streaming platforms, and potentially driving higher streaming numbers. The best part is that the activity does not require users to have a Spotify Premium subscription.

How to add an Instagram song to your Spotify favourites

With millions of Instagram users uploading videos every day, many of which are accompanied by music, there will be many songs that are new launches or songs that you may not recognise. While it was simple to find the name of the song on Instagram, there was also an additional step involved to search for it and make it a part of your Spotify library.

The new feature, however, has been rolled out worldwide and users will now be able to access it, provided both apps in question are updated to their latest versions on their smartphones.

With this new cross-app feature, you’ll now see a small Spotify ‘Add’ button on song pages. The first time you tap on it, you’ll be asked to link your Spotify account. After that, you will find a notification stating that the track has been added to your Liked Songs playlist. While it is certainly a handy feature, it would have been more convenient if a new playlist was created for Instagram finds instead of being added to an existing playlist.

To double-check, you can switch to the Spotify app to verify if it worked. But, it won’t be necessary. You can continue scrolling through Instagram after adding the song!
