Xiaomi, one of the biggest smartphone manufacturers in India and overseas, has recently announced a complete revamp of the software that powers its smartphones.
Xiaomi’s MIUI, which was a custom skin based off the Android operating system, has powered the Mi series (now Xiaomi series) and Redmi series phones for about 13 years. Now, the brand has announced its decision to retire the UI in favour of a new identity for its upcoming phones – HyperOS.
Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun recently confirmed the development of the HyperOS UI in a post on social platform X. Calling the switch, a “historic moment” in the Xiaomi timeline, Jun also announced that HyperOS will make its debut with the Xiaomi 14 series.
Xiaomi HyperOS: What to expect?
Not much is currently known about HyperOS, and how exactly the new skin will differ from MIUI. Will we see a new UI that sticks to the minimal Android formula that brands like Nothing and Nokia have adopted over the years? Or will we see another heavily skinned UI that doesn’t resemble core Android at all? Only time will tell.

What MIUI fans will instead be looking forward to, is Xiaomi retaining the best bits that MIUI was known for. These include a plethora of customisation options, some really handy features like one-hand mode and Xiaomi’s implementation of ‘Notes’, as well as icons and wallpapers that helped MIUI make its identity since the Redmi 1S hit the Indian market in 2014.
HyperOS will be rolling out to Xiaomi and Redmi devices in China, as well as the global market, as Xiaomi Global VP Alvin Tse confirmed in yet another X post. So, it’s safe to assume the new UI will be a part of Xiaomi’s smartphones in India as well.

The Xiaomi 14 series is expected to launch next month and is likely to be powered by the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processors. Other expected specifications include a 50MP primary sensor, 120W fast wired and 50W fast wireless charging. More details are expected to surface in the next few weeks.
