Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi debuted its Android-based HyperOS last year. Since then, the new operating system has gradually succeeded MIUI across many of the brand’s devices.
With Xiaomi on the brink of rolling out a second iteration OS update for its users, several rumours point towards the possibility of a hidden camera detection feature being on the cards. The feature could potentially rule out privacy concerns for solo travellers and women.
Xiaomi HyperOS 2.0 hidden camera detection feature: What's there to know?
As per a XiaomiTime report, HyperOS 2.0 may support hidden camera detection using wireless local-area network (WLAN) searches. The feature is potentially titled as ‘Camera Scan‘ and will allow users to look up concealed cameras within the vicinity.
Based on the screenshots shared by the publication, the user interface will read, “Detect hidden cameras to protect your privacy and personal safety” on its welcome screen. The feature may also reportedly allow users to scan for cameras with a single tap.

The publication also mentions that the addition is aimed at tackling privacy concerns faced by travel enthusiasts who frequent new environments. The feature will also act as a surveillance tool that can alert them of any potential privacy threats within their location. The feature is also deemed similar to a Python-based program known as Ingram which is available on GitHub.
When will the hidden camera detection feature be available for Xiaomi devices?
The hidden camera detection feature is rumoured to roll out with Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2.0 in October. The new OS version will also reportedly come with Android 15, which is scheduled to roll out in September.
Apart from the hidden camera detection feature, Xiaomi also plans to add an app feature, which will be similar to that of iOS. This addition will allow users to swipe through different recently opened apps with ease.
