Why this Indian IT professional’s wedding plan is going viral

Thought only seasoned wedding planners can take care of a big fat Indian wedding? Think again

Why this Indian IT professional’s wedding plan is going viral

Keeping tabs on work has become more convenient than ever, thanks to apps like Google Keep, Microsoft’s To-Do app, or even something as simple as live trackers on Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel. In fact, good old-fashioned rote learning, pens and notebooks, or post-its for quick reference are considered passé by many, whether at work or at home.

Now, using the aforementioned software on our smartphones, laptops, tablets and desktops is all well and good. But what if we told you about an IT professional who ended up using Jira, an enterprise project management software, along with Google Sheets, to plan his wedding?

How Dhaval Singh used Jira and Google Sheets to plan his wedding

Dhaval Singh is a BITS Pilani graduate and lead founding engineer at Seezo, an IT company that deals specifically with network security. He and his fiancé Aditi first ended up using Google Sheets to track all activities pertaining to their wedding – from venues to catering and outfits to guest list, DJs and photoshoots.

Upon realising that Google Sheets wasn’t quite cutting it though, Shah, in a post on X (formerly Twitter) announced that “Google Sheets wasn’t scalable for an Indian wedding,” and that he moved to Jira instead.

The couple also named their Jira dashboard the ‘Aditi-Dhaval Wedding Board’, which has gained over six lakh views on X. The dashboard categorises tasks as “to-do” “in-progress” and “done,” once again, for everything from rituals to planning their honeymoon.

The post was amusing, to say the least, to everyone who came across it. Users praised the couple for their ingenuity, and shared their own ways of using the project management platform as well as funny anecdotes around the same.

Their wedding goes to show how project management softwares primarily marketed for enterprise users, have uses cases that extend well beyond traditional notions. One of them of course, happens to be a big fat Indian wedding, which we all love!
