WhatsApp lately seems to be pulling out all the stops to enhance its user experience. According to WABetaInfo, the instant messaging platform is planning to introduce new chat filters, which will help users keep track of conversations more easily.
How the new group chat filter works
According to the report, WhatsApp will gradually be rolling out a filter that allows users to see a list of all the groups they are a part of and exclude individual chats. To further help things along and draw a distinction between individual and group chats, WhatsApp has also renamed the “Personal” filter to “Contact,” as the personal filter also previously included past group chats and communities. Additionally, the “Business” filter has also been removed, to simplify things.

The group chats filter on WhatsApp, in addition to allowing users to keep track of conversations better, also allows one to prioritise them, as per their preference. As one often joins multiple groups at work, or with friends and family, and may have personal conversations concurrently on the side with people who may be part of those groups as well, the feature allows them to ensure there’s no cross or miscommunication in any form.
The feature is currently under development and is accessible only to those who are part of the Google Play Beta program for WhatsApp. When this feature will be rolled out to the broader user base on Android, as well as iOS and desktop devices remains unknown as of yet.
Other WhatsApp features to look out for
WhatsApp, recently, has been on quite a roll, having introduced several new features, including ones that seem to be taking on mainstream meeting apps.
Some of these features include the ability to share photos and videos in HD, multi-account support, landscape mode and screen sharing support for video calls, AI-generated stickers, as well as the ability to edit media captions and messages for up to 15 minutes after they’ve been sent.
