WhatsApp Web will soon let you organise your chats using filters

2023 is drawing to a close, but the flurry of new features WhatsApp has been getting in the past couple of weeks seems to be showing no signs of slowing down. Speaking on which, the WhatsApp Web app is set to receive a new chat filter feature, which will help users categorise and find conversations quickly.

New chat filters and a redesigned sidebar were first announced for WhatsApp a few months ago. The latter though, is still under development. The new chat filter feature can be accessed from the top row of the chat list screen on WhatsApp Web.

There are multiple filters one can use – such as “Unread,” “Contacts,” and “Groups.” As the names suggest, the Unread filter displays only those chats that have unread messages on them, and the Contacts filter helps retrieve chats only with numbers saved on one’s devices, thus helping filter out spam. The Groups filter, on the other hand, displays all of your group chats in one place, simplifying things for those who are part of multiple groups.

Now, it must be noted here that the feature is currently only available to users who have joined the beta program for WhatsApp Web, on their laptops and desktops. Moreover, the feature is being rolled out in a phased manner even to them, which means it might take a while for you to get the update, should you happen to have signed up for the same.

Other WhatsApp features to look out for

The new chat filters on WhatsApp happen to be just one of the many features introduced to the platform this year which aim to provide for a smoother, more comprehensive user experience.

Some of the other new features to look out for are the ability to edit messages and captions for photos, send self-destructing voice notes, the ability to share your screen on video calls, hide your IP address during calls, the ability to pin multiple messages, schedule events, and lots more.
