WhatsApp lately has introduced a host of features to make it a user-friendly communication app across platforms. The past year saw multiple innovative updates from the instant messaging platform, including WhatsApp Channels and the ability to use a PIN lock on your chats.
In fact, a recent useful feature introduced by the app also allows users to look up contacts without entering their phone numbers on their devices. But if you thought this was only restricted to the smartphone app, WhatsApp is reportedly planning to transition this feature onto its web client.
How to look for usernames on WhatsApp Web
As per WAbetainfo, users will be able to type in the names they wish to find within the search bar on top of the WhatsApp Web page. It goes on to mention how the username-based search feature is built to “enhance user experience by eliminating the need for phone numbers”.
It additionally aims to provide a convenient and privacy-conscious approach for users to “discover and connect with others within the WhatsApp ecosystem”.

Keeping privacy in mind, WhatsApp ensures that search results can be anonymous, and users will be able to communicate without revealing their contact details. Alternatively, for those who want to share their details, the platform will also lend a hassle-free process to do so with their trusted contacts.
A future update is said to allow WhatsApp users to modify or create a custom username that will be visible to those looking them up. That said, as of today, the availability of this feature for both stable and beta users seems to be unknown. However, the feature is undergoing tests, and WhatsApp plans to make it available for everyone soon enough.
