WhatsApp users may soon be able to change theme colours

You might (finally!) be able to give your WhatsApp an overhaul

WhatsApp users may soon be able to change theme colours

WhatsApp has recently introduced a bunch of UI-based changes for users for its smartphone app and web version. Whether it is as simple as adding a side panel or introducing complex features, such as Channels, the instant messaging platform took plenty of leaps and bounds in 2023. In fact, another such update also revealed how WhatsApp will soon allow users to play around with theme colours on their chat. Here’s what this means for you and everything you need to know about it:

WhatsApp users will soon be able to change app colours; here's how

WhatsApp users right now have a default green and white light mode, along with an option to switch to dark mode on their smartphones or laptops. That said, there’s no option to change the green band, which is significant to WhatsApp brand colours, on either of these platforms. According to a report published by WABetaInfo, this is set to change with the Meta-owned company planning to introduce a colour palette for users to choose from. WhatsApp is working on a new ‘app colour’ update, which is designed to give a user more control over the app’s appearance.

The report goes on to mention how this update was observed to be a part of the iOS beta version 24.1.10.70. For now, it seems to have five colour options, including green, blue, white, pink, and purple. The colours will be applied across the app and will be visible in the unread message indicator along with the time these messages are received. If that’s not all, users will also have the liberty to change the chat bubble colours inside their chat window.

Who is eligible for this update?

As of today, this update is under work and will only be available to iOS WhatsApp beta users. There has been no further notice from the company on as to when it could be available for Android smartphone users. However, WhatsApp is known to make updates available for both versions, and users can anticipate not long after it rolls out for iOS beta.
