Meta-owned WhatsApp has been testing the music feature for status updates for a while now. For those unaware, it’s an Instagram-like feature that allows you to add music to your status updates. Now, WhatsApp has reportedly started rolling out this feature to beta users on Android. Here’s everything you need to know about the feature.
How to add music to your WhatsApp status
WhatsApp’s new beta update for Android version 2.25.2.5 is available for Android phones. This update brings a new feature called ‘Music for Status Updates’. What this feature does is it adds a music button to your WhatsApp status editor.
With this music button, users can add music to their status updates. Users can choose from Meta’s extensive music library to find and add music to their status updates. This is the same music library as Instagram, so most should be familiar with it.

Once you add a track to your status update, those who see it will be not only able to hear the track but also be able to see its name at the top, allowing them to look for the track’s details. Similar to Instagram, users can add a music clip of up to 15 seconds.
This new music feature is great for those who want to flex their music taste or just want to post that sunset photo with a calm or a dreamy track to let others know about their mood.
If you are a beta user on Android, you can try the feature by following the steps below. For those using iPhones, you’ll have to wait for the feature to show up in the upcoming updates.
Step 1: Open WhatsApp on your smartphone.
Step 2: Tap on the Updates tab.
Step 3: Tap on the camera icon to add a photo or video as a status update.
Step 4: Now, tap on the music button that’s next to the sticker button and select the song of your choice.
Step 5: Finally, post the status update.
