WhatsApp is arguably the most used social media app in India. We all use it daily to communicate with our friends, family members, and office colleagues or business clients. However, if you use WhatsApp on an old iPhone, we have some bad news for you.
The app will soon stop working on some old iPhones, including the popular iPhone 5s. Continue reading to check if your iPhone makes it to the list.
Why is WhatsApp ending support for old iPhones?
According to a report by WAbetainfo, WhatsApp will drop support for old iPhone models starting May 2025. These old models are the ones that have stopped receiving iOS updates. WhatsApp keeps updating the app with new feature almost every month and it may not be able to keep all the features running on old iPhones due to system compatibility and hardware limitation.
Having said that, old iPhone models on iOS version earlier than iOS 15.1 won’t be able to run WhatsApp. Let’s see the full list of iPhones that will lose support for WhatsApp with this change.

iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus users are the ones who will be affected by this change. That’s because the last iOS update for these iPhones was iOS 12.5.7. iPhones released after these do support versions above iOS 15.1, so there’s no problem running WhatsApp on them.
How to continue using WhatsApp on your iPhone
If you are using any of the old iPhones mentioned above, your only way to continue using WhatsApp is to back up your data on the cloud and restore it on a new iPhone.
Yes, you will have to upgrade to a new iPhone to use your WhatsApp as it is after May, 2025. But it isn’t a big deal lately, thanks to the amount of discounts the new iPhone 15 has been receiving ahead of the New Years. So, go ahead and upgrade to new iPhone to continue to use WhatsApp on iOS.
