The last few weeks of the year are all about embracing festive cheer. Be it catching up with friends for a hot chocolate or walking into a decorated workspace, everyone celebrates the finale in their own way.
And right in time for the annual blow-out, WhatsApp has introduced party popper reactions to add that extra edge to the cheer. Here’s everything you need to know about it, along with how it will work:
WhatsApp introduces animated confetti reactions
WhatsApp introduced reactions a few years ago and has since allowed users to personalise and use them based on their mood. While users are allowed to replace the response with other emojis, this time around, the smartphone app has thrown in a few Easter eggs for celebratory messages.

The update was observed on WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.25.10.78; however, several Android users have also noticed the reaction appear for them within their conversations. Based on a report published by WhatsAppBetaInfo, the new reaction emojis will find a temporary spot on the app’s default reaction tray.
Last year, the Meta-owned company rolled out a similar element right before New Year’s Eve. However, this time around, the company will extend the reactions to a few more emojis along with the party popper.
How to use WhatsApp's animated celebratory reactions
To send (or receive) the confetti reaction on WhatsApp, here are a few steps you need to follow.
Step 1: Open WhatsApp and scroll to the conversation you wish to send the reaction to
Step 2: Find a message to react; tap and hold to find the reaction tray
Step 3: Within the reaction tray, you will find the ‘Party Popper’ emoji at the very end
Step 4: Once you tap on it, you should see a confetti animation on your screen, near the conversation you’ve reacted to
It is important to note that the person receiving the reaction will only be able to see it once they open their respective conversation. Apart from the Party Popper emoji, users can also replace or add the Party Face emoji or the Confetti Ball emoji to the tray to trigger a similar reaction.
