WhatsApp may soon let you post status updates directly to Instagram

New additions to WhatsApp’s beta versions have always let us have a peek at new features that could soon come to the stable versions of the app. The latest among such features is the ability to post status updates straight from WhatsApp to Instagram.

As per a report by WABetaInfo, a new WhatsApp beta for Android version hints at a tighter integration with other Meta-platform Instagram, which will allow WhatsApp users adding a new photo, video or other status update to also share the same on Instagram. The feature will be optional, and it will be up to the users whether they want integrated stories.

The feature will be handy for some. Creators, for instance, will be easily able to post stories to their audience on both platforms with ease. However, while the plus point of the feature is clear – saving time when uploading stories to both platforms, there are some disadvantages as well.

Instagram, which has been adapted to sharing stories for years, has a myriad of photo and text editing options in-app, which let you customise an update with filters, texts, GIFs, and more. WhatsApp misses out on these elements. Hence, editing a story via WhatsApp before automatically sharing it to Instagram would also mean missing out on these handy tools.

When will users get the feature?

With the feature still in beta, it is difficult to predict when smartphones running the stable version of WhatsApp will get Instagram story integration. However, looking at past patterns, we can expect the feature to come to the stable channel sometime in early 2024.

For now, those on the WhatsApp beta channel can try the feature out by upgrading to WhatsApp Beta for Android version 2.23.25.20. The feature joins other recent additions WhatsApp has been working on including AI chats and wider voice call support. However, be prepared to wait for quite some time before you get access to all of the above-mentioned features.
