WhatsApp quietly took over text messaging, and has since then been a sought-after platform for calls as well. What once began with voice calls has now expanded to video calls and sophisticated video conferences over time.
Building upon this, WhatsApp recently announced a few more additions to its iOS smartphone app that are reportedly designed to enhance the overall calling experience. From adding backgrounds to touching up for an interview, here’s everything you will be able to do.
WhatsApp for iOS to get video call filters: What's there to know?
WABetainfo, in a recent post, mentioned how the Meta-owned platform has introduced new features to help users personalise their appearance on video calls in real-time. The report goes on the mention how these enhancements will eventually allow users to fix the colour and tone of their video feed, to ensure they have greater control over how they appear online.
WhatsApp will also introduce background editing tools for other video call customisation options. It will let users blur their backgrounds and even swap them with a selection of pre-set backdrops offered by the platform. Apart from these, WhatsApp has thrown in a low-light mode toggle for boosting visibility in dimly lit spaces. Once a user switches it on, the light quality of their video will instantly improve, allowing them to enjoy clear video quality at all times.

Lastly, WhatsApp plans to include AR and touch-up mode, which is essentially a filter built to smoothen a user’s skin and surroundings for professional or casual conversations. It is also important to note that WhatsApp will automatically remember the last set configuration across all video calls unless manually changed later.
When will the new video call filters be available for WhatsApp users?
WhatsApp is testing the new AR-based video call filters in beta for iOS users. When or if these features will make their way to a larger audience is something we might just have to wait and see. The company previously announced these additions for Android users in June; however, the features are yet to be rolled out for the stable version.
