WhatsApp for iOS may soon let users add their Instagram profiles to their accounts

Meta-owned WhatsApp has a history of borrowing features from Instagram, but it seems as though it is now taking this integration to the next level. Very soon, iOS users might just be able to link their Instagram profiles directly to their WhatsApp accounts, creating a more connected social experience across Meta’s platforms. Wondering how this will work? Here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming feature:

According to a post published by WABetaInfo, this new functionality was first spotted in WhatsApp beta for iOS (v 25.7.10.70). The feature will typically allow users to add their Instagram profile links within their WhatsApp profiles, making it easier for contacts to find and follow them across platforms.

This also appears to be just the beginning, as reports suggest WhatsApp may expand this feature to include other social media platforms in the future. For now, Instagram is the only supported platform, which makes sense, given both apps are owned by Meta.

How will this new WhatsApp feature work?

Based on screenshots shared by WABetaInfo, the Instagram profile link will be displayed prominently on the user’s WhatsApp profile, appearing beneath their profile picture and name. That’s not all, users will have complete control over who can see this linked profile through familiar WhatsApp privacy settings including Everyone, My Contacts, My Contacts Except, as well as Nobody.

The move is designed to remain user-friendly while maintaining WhatsApp’s commitment to privacy, allowing users to decide exactly who can see their Instagram connection. Additionally, this integration remains entirely optional, meaning users who prefer to keep their WhatsApp and Instagram presences separate will not be required to connect their profiles.

When will it be available to everyone?

Currently, the feature is limited to select beta testers enrolled in the WhatsApp beta for iOS program. It appears in the smartphone app’s Settings for those who have access to it.

There’s no official word yet on when this feature might roll out more widely to all iOS users or even when it might come to Android devices. As with many beta features, it may undergo changes before a full public release. For more information, stay tuned to Unboxed by Croma.
