WhatsApp has almost always prioritised increased privacy with each update. From having end-to-end encrypted chats to masking the IP address during calls, the instant messaging smartphone app is constantly working towards safeguarding data collected over conversations.
However, the Meta-owned platform is adding another layer of security for its chats. If you’ve been using WhatsApp on your laptop or tablet, a new update might let you protect your conversations with a secret code. Here’s everything you need to know about it:
WhatsApp locked chats for linked devices: What's there to know?
According to WABetainfo, the feature for locking chats is being introduced to ensure a more secure chat session between contacts. The feature was already live for chats on the WhatsApp smartphone app; however, a new update could bring it to linked devices as well.

The upcoming feature will allow users to generate a unique code on their primary device to help access chats on their linked device. This will make sure your sensitive chats remain hidden on both your devices. According to WhatsApp, this will also strengthen synchronised protection and ensure data is not visible to unauthorised users.
How to get locked chats for linked devices on WhatsApp
For now, the feature is available only for a select few users with WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.8.4. WhatsApp hasn’t mentioned when users of the stable version of the app might get the update, and they might likely have to wait for a little longer before they can make the most of it. However, until then, they users can enjoy the recent navigation bar update that the platform has only now rolled out as an update.
