WhatsApp Channels will soon get an Automatic Album feature; here’s what you should know

WhatsApp users lately have benefitted from quite a few new features. Channels, of course, is one of them. Apart from broadcasting messages to larger groups, it allows like-minded people to connect over topics they’re interested in.

Although Channels right now only allow admins to send messages to the group, WhatsApp is certainly looking at adding more to this. Known as Automatic Album, WhatsApp Channels will soon be able to automatically create a gallery of media once shared on the group. Here’s what you need to know about it.

How will the Automatic Album feature work?

As per Wabetainfo, WhatsApp is looking to allow better organisation for users looking to share multiple consecutive photos and videos on a Channel. This means, users will automatically find media in a single album instead of individual posts. The aim behind this feature is to ensure organisation along with accessibility for messages in a Channel, apart from simply enhancing visual presentation.

In fact, the feature will also ensure users find all their files in a single place, as they will only be required to tap the album to access a particular photo or video. This will further ensure improved navigation and will prevent participants from having to click on individual chat bubbles within the group.

Apart from this, these albums will lend users an added advantage of Channel reactions as well. This will not only promote engagement, but will also allow members to emote to the context of the discussion directly. Alternatively, if you are a Channel admin, WhatsApp claims that you will directly benefit from this feature as it will allow you to manage your media files within the group better.

When will the Automatic Album feature be available for everyone?

WhatsApp is currently testing this feature by making it available for select beta audiences only. To be eligible for this feature, users should be updated with beta version 2.23.26.16 of their smartphone app. However, there’s no denying that we’re looking forward to the feature alongside other developments that the platform plans to roll out in the near future.
