WhatsApp can now transcribe your voice messages

Ever been in a situation where someone sent you a voice message on WhatsApp and you can’t listen to it right then and there? This is where WhatsApp’s newest feature swings in to save the day.

After a long Voice message transcripts has been extensively tested in the beta phase and it is now making its way to the stable version of the app. Let’s see what the new voice message transcripts feature is all about and how it can save your time.

What's voice message transcription and how it can save you time

WhatsApp’s voice message feature has been available for a while now, but despite additions like a speed control switch that lets you listen to voice messgaes at faster speeds, listening remains a time-consuming way to quickly grasp what the other party wants to convey. But reading a transcript? That can be much quicker when you’re in a pinch.

The new WhatsApp voice message transcripts feature is all about generating transcripts for voice messages. Users can see a transcription for a voice message after it’s downloaded. And, instead of listening to the full voice message, you can simply read a transcript of it in seconds. This not only saves your time, but also makes things convenient for those who like to read.

The voice message transcripts feature is rolling out to the WhatsApp app on both Android phones and iPhones. The feature currently supports English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian. However, we expect it to support more languages soon, including local Indian languages.

It is worth noting that WhatsApp isn’t the first to bring voice message transcriptions. Apple’s iMessage received transcription support last year. WhatsApp’s direct rival, Telegram, also offers voice message transcriptions, however, only to its paid users.

The good thing is that voice message transcription is free on WhatsApp. Since the feature has been already rolled out, you should see in the app anytime from now.

Other than this, WhatsApp is testing animated sticker reactions similar to iMessage. This feature may just make conversations on WhatsApp more fun. Just like voice message transcripts, this feature is also expected soon on the stable version of the app.
