There is no better line to describe one of the best anti-heroes in recent times than the hook of Anti-Hero by Taylor Swift – “It’s me, hi, I’m the problem, it’s me!” Since his introduction in the first Thor movie, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki has been a fan favourite.
While we thought we had seen the last of him in the opening minutes of Avengers: Infinity War, Loki got his own spin-off series, with the second season releasing today (October 5). But before you ready up your TV and bowl of popcorn, here’s everything you need to know about Loki season 2.
Spoilers ahead for Loki season 1 – consider yourself warned!
Recapping Loki season 1
The first season of Loki starts with the time-heist version of the Battle of New York. In the chaos that ensues, the 2012 version of Loki escapes with the Tesseract but gets captured by the Time Variance Authority (TVA).
Loki (and we) learn about TVA, an organisation that monitors and regulates the timeline. It is run by a group of beings known as the Time Keepers, who are responsible for keeping the timeline on track by containing ‘variants’ – individuals who escape their timelines. A TVA agent named Mobius partners with Loki to track down a dangerous Loki variant called Sylvie.
Loki and Sylvie eventually team up and learn that the Time Keepers are not who they seem to be. They reach the Citadel at the End of Time and confront the creator of TVA, He Who Remains. A Kang variant, He Who Remains, recounts to our Loki-duo how other Kang variants had waged a multiversal war, and he was the one to end it by destroying alternate timelines. However, he has since grown weary of overlooking the TVA and a singular timeline. He offers them a choice – either kill him and risk another multiversal war or take over his overlooking duties.
Sylvie and Loki have different views on what should be done because, as Loki eloquently put it, “You can’t trust…and I can’t be trusted.” Sylvie sends Loki back to the TVA headquarters and murders He Who Remains, causing the multiverse to go wild with multiple alternate timelines. The season ends with Loki waking up in a timeline where the TVA is under the control of a different Kang variant. Though he finds a familiar face Mobius, the TVA agent doesn’t remember him.
Loki season 2
While Marvel Studios released the official trailer in July and a teaser in September, we got our first glimpse at the second season back in February. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania not only featured a Kang variant as the antagonist but also had two post-credit scenes.
In the first scene, we see the Council of Kangs – different Kang variants assembling to discuss their plans. The second scene is where we spot Victor Timely, a Kang variant who is a brilliant industrialist and inventor. He is presenting his theory of time and relativity while Loki and Mobius watch from the audience.

In the official trailer of Loki season 2, Loki is time-slipping, i.e., jumping between locations and timelines. However, just like one couldn’t apparate in Hogwarts, time-slipping shouldn’t be possible within the confines of TVA. We are also introduced to OB, played by Ke Hay Quan of Everything Everywhere All At Once fame. He is a TVA agent in the Repairs and Advancement division. The video teases Loki’s time travel adventures spanning jet ski dealerships to a 1980s McDonald’s.
Is Loki season 2 good?
Similar to its first season, the second season of Loki will have six episodes. The God of mischief, not only has to navigate his way through multiversal chaos, but also deal with his personal trauma. The overall tone and feel of latest season seems to be one of mystery and intrigue. The fast-paced teasers and the early reviews hint at the second season being a breath of fresh air all superhero fans have been waiting for.
Burdened with glorious purpose, the God of Mischief returns with Loki season 2 on Disney+ Hotstar. The first episode premieres on October 5, with one new episode dropping every Thursday until November 9.
