This AI tool gives a voice to those with speech impairments

We tend to take everyday verbal communication for granted, whether over phone or in person. However, people with speech impairments can struggle to make themselves understood daily.

To help them out, Voiceitt, an Israeli startup, has created an AI-enabled voice recognition platform. The platform promises to help those with speech impairments to communicate clearly and independently with everyone. Read on to find out just how.

What Voiceitt is and how it works

Voiceitt, a web-based platform, can be accessed using both – smartphones as well as a laptop or desktop. What’s more, it can be accessed without having to install a separate program.

It works as a voice-to-text or voice-to-synthesised speech tool, which allows a person using it to have conversations with people online, or even face-to-face. In addition to enabling verbal communication, the software also creates real-time transcriptions when a user is speaking, to help listeners understand them better.

Voiceitt is not just a mere speech-to-text tool however, the program gets clever integrations with other platforms such as ChatGPT and Webex, enabling enhanced productivity in the workplace.

Voiceitt works by using machine learning and speech recognition algorithms tailored to each user. While setting up the tool, it asks users to repeat several words, phrases, and sentences and attempts to learn their speech patterns.

The application, now technically in its second iteration, can be used entirely hands-free, making it accessible to other differently-abled people as well.

Interestingly, a product manager at Voiceitt, Michael Cash, himself happens to have cerebral palsy. Using the software, he can dictate emails draw up documents for work, and even send WhatsApp messages to his friends, family, and colleagues.

Voiceitt is just one of many examples of how artificial intelligence is being leveraged to make a positive impact in the world.
