Vivo X100 Pro vs Vivo X90 Pro: What has changed?

Vivo launched its new camera-focused X-series smartphones in India today. The Vivo X100 series, consist of the base Vivo X100 and the top-end Vivo X100 Pro, both of which succeed their 2023 counterparts, the Vivo X90 and Vivo X90 Pro. You may be wondering what exactly has changed on the new phones.

As a Vivo X90 Pro user, you may also wonder if there’s enough changes for you to consider an upgrade. Let’s put last year’s Vivo X90 Pro head-to-head against the new Vivo X100 Pro to find out.

Vivo X100 Pro vs X90 Pro: Display

Starting with the screen of both the phones, we see that the Vivo X90 Pro comes with a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, 1,300nits peak brightness and HDR10+ support. The new Vivo X100 Pro also features a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen with the same 1260 x 2800 pixels resolution, but with some key changes.

These include an LTPO panel on the X100 Pro, which allow the phone to function at any refresh rate between 1Hz and 120Hz, unlike the X90 Pro which can only function at 60Hz and 120Hz. The X100 Pro also features a brighter screen with a peak brightness of 3,000 nits.

Vivo X100 Pro vs X90 Pro: Cameras

The Vivo X90 Pro launched with a 50.3MP main camera with Laser autofocus and OIS, a 12MP ultrawide camera with autofocus and a 50MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom and OIS. Compared to this, the new Vivo X100 Pro comes with a 50MP main camera with Laser autofocus and OIS, a second 50MP ultrawide camera with autofocus, and a third 50MP periscope telephoto camera with 4.5x optical zoom and OIS.

Besides common features like the numerous software features, Zeiss optics and the dedicated image processing chip that Vivo provides on both smartphones, the Vivo X100 Pro has a significantly more superior camera setup with a much higher-resolution sensor for ultrawide photos and a telephoto sensor that can provide more optical zoom.

Vivo X100 Pro vs X90 Pro: Performance

The Vivo X90 Pro is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9200, which is a powerful flagship chip even today. However, the new Vivo X100 Pro is powered by the newer MediaTek Dimensity 9300 chip, which offers higher clock speeds and a more powerful GPU that supports new features like hardware-accelerated ray-tracing, offering a superior experience in gaming and other resource-intensive tasks.

Both the phones have similar RAM and storage options, with both devices featuring fast UFS 4.0 storage units, which mean you shouldn’t see any difference beyond what the two distinct processors have to offer.

Vivo X100 Pro vs X90 Pro: Other specifications

While the Vivo X90 Pro featured a 4,870mAh battery with 120W wired and 50W wireless charging, the new Vivo X100 Pro offers a larger 5,400mAh battery with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. Both devices also support reverse wireless charging for accessories and thanks to the larger battery, the X100 Pro offers superior battery life, despite having slightly slower charging.

Verdict: Which phone should you go for?

We’re assuming that if you’re considering the Vivo X-series phones, the camera performance and features will be most important. When it comes to this, the new Vivo X100 Pro offers a much more superior experience thanks to better sensors, along with all the other X-series perks that power both the phones.

Apart from the camera, there’s not much to separate the two phones except for slightly more performance and better battery life. Being a year ahead of the X90 Pro, the X100 Pro will also get an additional year of software support, but yes, it will also cost more, priced at Rs 89,999 compared to the Vivo X90 Pro which is currently available for Rs 55,999. So, if you already have the X90 Pro, you may not want to upgrade just yet, unless you really want those new sensors.
