Vivo announced the Vivo V40 earlier this week, bringing bigger battery life and retaining the slim profile to the popular V-series. The brand also partnered with Zeiss for new camera features. However, does that make the V40 the right phone for you at this price.
We put the phone head-to-head with the Realme 13 Pro Plus, another great mid-range choice to figure out which phone has more value for your use-cases and needs. Let’s begin.
Vivo V40 vs Realme 13 Pro Plus: Display and design
Both the Vivo V40 and the Realme 13 Pro Plus come with a plastic frame, and glass on the back. The Vivo V40 comes with a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz and 4,500 nits peak brightness. Meanwhile, Realme 13 Pro Plus comes with 6.7-inch curved AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and 2,000 nits peak brightness.

While both display panels aren’t very different when comes to the features they offer, the Vivo V40 offers a flat, but brighter panel. Meanwhile, the Realme 13 Pro Plus comes with a curved panel that offers a different look to the front of the device and makes gestures feel smoother.
Vivo V40 vs Realme 13 Pro Plus: Performance
The Vivo V40 is powered by a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, while the Realme 13 Pro Plus comes with a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset. The 7 Gen 3 is the slightly more powerful chip here, offering 2.6GHz clock speeds vs the 2.4GHz speeds of the 7s Gen 2.
The 7 Gen 3 also has a better GPU that offers significantly better gaming performance, but expect similar day-to-day performance in general use.
Vivo V40 vs Realme 13 Pro Plus: Camera
The Vivo V40 comes with a dual 50MP rear camera setup, including a main camera with OIS support and an ultrawide camera. There is also a 50MP front camera, and some Zeiss filters for portrait shots.
The Realme 13 Pro Plus comes with a more versatile triple camera setup including a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 50MP periscope camera with 3x optical zoom and an 8MP ultrawide camera. There’s also a 32MP front camera.
Both phones are pretty decked out when it comes to the camera specs, but the Realme 13 Pro offers a periscope camera that lets you take better zoomed pictures of far away subjects.
Vivo V40 vs Realme 13 Pro Plus: Battery life and charging
The Vivo V40 comes with a 5,500mAh battery, while the Realme 13 Pro Plus comes with a slightly smaller 5,200mAh battery. However, both offer pretty fast 80W wired charging.
Of course, battery life also depends on software optimisations and other factors, so it is hard to tell which of the two phones will offer you better battery life for your use cases. That said, both phones come with big batteries that should last over a day for most users, and the fast charging should help you quickly top up when you’re out of juice.
Unboxed Take: Which phone is for you?
Both the Vivo V40 and the Realme 13 Pro Plus come with a versatile set of features and specifications for all kinds of users, from gamers to photography enthusiasts. However, some subtle differences separate the two devices.

The Vivo V40 offers better general and gaming performance, thanks to a newer chip and also sports a brighter display, which is great if you catch a lot of movies (or generally use your phone a lot) outdoors.
The Realme 13 Pro Plus, on the other hand, offers a more versatile camera setup thanks to an extra camera. It also comes with a curved display, which is a design choice that’s difficult to find at this price.
We hope this blog helped you decide which of the two smartphones is for you. Stay tuned to Unboxed by Croma for more comparisons.
