Truecaller today has more or less become a staple on our smartphones, considering the growing need to block out spam or robo-callers. That said, scammers and telemarketers today have taken things up a notch with AI intervention. To tackle this, Truecaller has introduced a new tool that automatically blocks unwanted calls on an iPhone. The feature, which was already available for Android devices, has made its way to iOS. Here’s how it will work.
Auto-Block Spam on Truecaller: What it is and how it works
Typically, a fraudulent call on Truecaller comes with an ID stating the call could be ‘possible spam’. This is then updated and evaluated based on how many people have reported the caller, along with the time of their activity and comments. However, the Auto-Block Spam feature will detect a spam call and prevent your phone from ringing.

A user can always check the list of blocked calls within their call log, and Truecaller will label them ‘Fraud’ or ‘Scammer’ for ease of identification. The feature will be available to Truecaller Premium subscribers and can be activated via the app.
How to activate the Auto-Block Spam feature on Truecaller Premium
To activate this feature, all you need to do is navigate to the ‘Protect’ section within the Truecaller app. Once switched on, the feature will block out any malicious incoming calls via the app. Users have the option of selecting between ‘All Spammers’ or ‘Top Spammers’, and the app will filter the list based on your selection.
The feature is exclusively available for iPhone users with a Truecaller Premium subscription. If you haven’t seen it yet, update your app to the latest version – 13.12 – to make the most of its benefits. Earlier this year, the platform also introduced an AI call scanner which can alert you when it detects a scammer on call.
While Truecaller seems to be addressing the concerns of malicious activity, it does raise caution about the app’s take on privacy. With regulations and time, however, there is still a chance of the brand reinforcing the use of artificial intelligence and technology in the right direction.
