Top foldable smartphones you can buy in 2023

Remember the old days, when pulling out a black Moto Razr or even a Nokia 9500 communicator and flipping them open to answer calls was considered the ultimate power move?

Well, we’ve come a long way since then. At one point, manufacturers phased out foldable phones, but now they’re back with a bang, and this time around, to stay hopefully. If you’ve been considering investing in a foldable smartphone right about now, here are the ones you can buy.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 is one of the first foldable smartphones to shut completely – meaning no dust or debris can settle in the hinges. Its noteworthy features include a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED display on the inside, 6.2-inch on the outside, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, 12GB of RAM, and up to 1TB storage.

It also includes a triple camera setup at the rear with a 50MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 12MP telephoto lens. What’s more there is also a 4MP camera for the internal display, and on the outside at the front, another 10MP camera.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4

Though a predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is a pretty capable device in its own right. The only difference between the two is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. All of the Fold4’s specs and features otherwise, including RAM and battery capacity, as well as camera setup are the same as the Galaxy Z Fold5.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5

Similar to the Fold, the new Galaxy Z Flip5 also folds completely flat, giving it a compact form factor. Specs-wise, you get a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED main display, 3.4-inch outer display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, and a dual camera setup (12MP + 12MP).

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 maybe an older device, but there’s very little differentiating from the Flip5. Again, the major difference comes down to the chipset, with the Flip4 powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset.

The second major difference between the two happens to be a smaller 1.9-inch outer display on the former as compared to the latter’s 3.4-inch unit. Pretty much everything apart from that, remains the same on the Flip4 and the Flip5.

Oppo Find N3 Flip

The latest in this list (at the time of writing) is the Oppo Find N3 Flip. It features a 6.8-inch LTPO AMOLED display on the inside, 3.2-inch display on the outside, MediaTek Dimensity 9200 chipset, and a triple camera setup (50MP primary + 32MP telephoto + 48MP ultrawide). On the front is a 32MP camera for video calls and selfies.

Oppo Find N2 Flip

Oppo’s Find N2 Flip comes in a single 8GB RAM and 256GB storage variant and is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ SoC. The display size on both, the inside and outside are the same as the one on the Oppo Find N3 Flip. For photography though, you get a dual-camera setup (50MP primary + 8MP ultrawide) at the rear, and a 32MP selfie camera up front.

Tecno Phantom V Fold

Tecno’s Phantom V Fold was released earlier this year, and features a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset, 6.4-inch LTPO AMOLED display on the outside and a 7.8-inch display on the inside.

Speaking of optics, the Tecno Phantom V Fold comes with a 50MP primary, 50MP telephoto, and 13MP ultrawide lens at the rear. There is also a 16MP cover camera for when it is folded, and a 32MP camera inside.

OnePlus Open

The latest brand to jump on the foldable bandwagon happens to be OnePlus, with its new OnePlus Open device launching later this month.

The OnePlus Open is expected to come with a 7.82-inch OLED display on the inside, 6.3-inch display on the outside, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor under the hood, and a triple-camera (48MP primary + 48MP ultrawide + 64MP telephoto) setup at the back.
