Samsung has been at the forefront of software updates right now among Android phones, offering seven years of Android and system updates for most of its mid-range and flagship smartphones like the Galaxy S25 series. However, even the longest running devices must reach the finish line at some point, so resources can focus on newer, more updated models.
That is precisely why every year, some old Samsung phones are declared to be at the end of their software support. These are the phones that are too old, and will no longer get Android updates or security patches. Here’s a list of such phones, which will stop getting updates this year.
Samsung smartphones that will stop getting updates in 2025
Samsung Galaxy A02s
Samsung Galaxy A12
Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G
Samsung Galaxy S20 FE
Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G
Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra
Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G
Samsung Galaxy S20+
Samsung Galaxy S20 5G
Samsung Galaxy S20
Samsung Galaxy W21 5G (a re-branded Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G for the Chinese market)

Most of these smartphones launched about five years ago during the course of 2020, and have received all the software updates they could. While the Galaxy A02s and Galaxy A12 have already stopped receiving software support as of January 2025, the others will gradually receive their last updates over the next few months.
What you should do if your phone is on the list
If your old Galaxy smartphone is on this list, you can continue using it for the moment, until the last update rolls in. While your phone will be usable after that as well, it will not be advisable to do so for long. That’s because an Android phone that doesn’t get updates remains vulnerable to newer forms of malware and malicious sites, while also missing out on newer features.
Therefore, it is better to look for a new smartphone. Many devices like the Samsung Galaxy A35 and Samsung Galaxy A55 are newer mid-range phones, which will be updated for many more years.
If you’re looking for more powerful smartphones instead, you can also check out the top-tier Galaxy S24 series and Galaxy S25 series phones, including the new Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, which is the brand’s most powerful phone right now.
