After 25 years of release, The Blair Witch Project still finds ways to be relevant with the audience. This found footage horror classic has been considered among the scariest movies of time. Producer Mike Monello, in collaboration with Second Sight Films, finally presents the film as it was always meant to be seen by the audience.
This 1999 movie became a phenomenon because it looked like it was really filmed by a trio of young documentary makers who got lost in a haunted forest. Let’s see what this version of the movie includes.
The Blair Witch Project gets a makeover
At the time, The Blair Witch Project was filmed on Hi8 video and 16mm black and white film and edited on a Media 100XR, a non-linear editing system which was widely popular in 1999. However, since the theatres did not have video projectors back then, the DigiBeta master was transferred to 35mm film using telecine.

The telecine technology was used to transfer film to video or television images. It allowed film to be viewed on standard video equipment like televisions, DVD players, and computers.
This meant that producers had to film the video in a controlled environment with a 35mm film camera. However, during this process they met with challenges that were beyond their reach.
In order to capture the true look, the film has been re-transferred from the original Hi8 tapes and 16mm film by Second Sight, a UK distributor that is known to restore films and provide them in Blu-ray, UHD and On-Demand.
This new version will include 90 minutes of deleted footage along with a new documentary. However, this version will be available only in some regions of Europe. If other regions want to watch this version, the fans will have to reach out to Lionsgate on their social channels.
While The Blair Witch Project was already scary, this version is said to be even scarier. This time around the editing has been carried out with the vision that the movie was made. If you like scary movies, here is a list of movies that can put you in a spooky mood.
