Tesla, at the ‘We, Robot’, event made a couple of exciting announcements. Starting with the Optimus bot, which is getting closer to its finished state, the Cybercab robotaxi to drive you home safely, and the Tesla Robovan to take on public transportation.
Here’s a quick look at all the three new announcements.
Tesla Optimus bot details
Tesla first revealed its robot back in 2021 and then showcased a prototype in 2022. Now, at the We, Robot event, Tesla unveiled an upgraded and better version of the bot. Tesla’s Optimus bot now appears to be getting closer to its finished state.
Optimus, at the event, was spotted serving drinks and handing over packages. It was also waving at guests and also playing rock paper scissors. The bot can now perform human tasks like watering plants or walking your dog, among other things.
While Optimus looks cool, as you’d expect, it isn’t a bot ready just yet for the public. So, it may take a few years until we see Optimus doing all your chores.
Tesla Cybercab details
Apart from a robot, we also saw a new self-driving car at the event, not a surprise. Cybercab, however, is a robotaxi that will drive you home without an actual driver driving it for you.

Cybercab robotaxi will work just like other Tesla autonomous vehicles. It has a sleek-looking design, with doors that open upward. However, it has only two seats inside. Interestingly, Cybercab won’t even have a steering wheel, but only a large screen, which we assume will be for entertainment purposes.
Musk said that Cybercab will be cheaper for users as it may cost as low as $0.20 (about Rs 17) per mile, as opposed to $1 (about Rs 84) for public transportation like city buses.

If all goes well, Cybercab may go into production by 2026, however, it may get delayed until 2027. This means don’t expect a robotaxi on streets at least in the next couple of years. Also, before Cybercab becomes available to the public, it will have to clear some regulatory approvals.
Tesla Robovan details
While we all anticipated robots and self-driving vehicles at the Tesla event, not many expected Tesla to showcase a robotic van that looks like a train engine. Tesla’s Robovan looks like a piece from the set of a cyborg film.
It will be a part of the Tesla Network, and it will take on public transport. You will be able to book a Robovan to get your squad from one place to another, although it has a larger capacity. Up to 20 people can board the vehicle. Robovan is said to be cheaper for users. Commuters can sit or stand inside and head to their destination.

There’s not much tech to look at here, apart from its all-electric build. Tesla didn’t delve into the details of the vehicle, since this is the first time we are seeing it. However, we should learn more about Robovan in the next few years.
