Spotify users will soon be able to enjoy music videos

Music streaming platform Spotify has never had a problem staying relevant with the crowd. Whether it is the year-end Wrapped that it is best known for or the newest ‘daylist’ feature that has taken the social media clique by storm, the brand has had developments up its sleeve for avid fans of the app.

Spotify, in a more recent move, has rolled out a feature that will let users watch the music video alongside the track. If you’re wondering how this feature will work on your smartphone app, here’s everything you need to know.

Music videos on Spotify: How will they work?

Users will be able to access the Spotify music video feature on their Now Playing screen. On selecting a track, you will be able to toggle between music and the ‘switch to video’ option located above the song title.

However, keep in mind that tapping it will restart the song and switch to the visuals at the centre of your screen. Whether you’re using an Android phone or an iPhone, you will be able to rotate your screen to switch to a full-screen mode and return to music after tapping on ‘switch to audio’ anytime in between.

Music videos on Spotify: Who can access this feature?

The platform has currently introduced this feature only in 11 regions with a beta update. For now, the collection remains to be a ‘limited catalogue’. The countries that make the list include the UK, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Brazil, Colombia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Kenya.

The regions were chosen based on the market size and the availability of local artists. Some of the popular supported artists include Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat, Ice Spice, Aluna, and Asake. Apart from having the feature on the smartphone app, users will also be able to play music videos on their desktop or TV devices. That said, it will be available to Premium subscribers only.

While this may seem like a significant development, this wouldn’t be the first time Spotify has introduced videos on the platform. The music streaming app currently also supports video podcasts or its vertical video format known as ‘Clips’ on the app. However, according to the company, the new addition is aimed to give artists a new way to keep their listeners hooked to their content.
