If you still don’t have Spotify Premium, the streaming giant plans to restrict popular features in another move to push paid subscriptions. Currently, free users on the platform have access to the library alongside several app features with ads. However, Indian users may lose access soon unless they purchase a plan for their account. Here’s what you need to know.
2 Spotify features that will only be available for paid users
Shuffle play: You might soon have to bid adieu to Spotify’s shuffle button if you rely on it to switch up your playlist. That said, non-subscribers will still have access to the Smart Shuffle toggle that mixes up their queue with new song suggestions. So, if you’re looking to play your songs in a specific order, you might have to swipe your card to avail the privilege.
Repeat songs: Have you ever liked a song too much and you just had to put it on repeat? Unfortunately, you might have to pay to hear your favourite song more than once. If that’s not all, users will also not be able to rewind the song to a particular line or portion unless they restart it.

Although available for everyone since 2019, Spotify soon plans to send out an in-app update for its desktop and smartphone users to notify them of the change. According to a Redseer study published in April 2023, Spotify still holds the title for the most-streamed music app in India, with a market share of 26 per cent.
However, this move may call for backlash, as several still prefer using the regular version of the app. As of today, Spotify offers Premium plans beginning from Rs 119 a month, which include ad-free music, unlimited downloads and its all-new group-streaming session. Apart from this, users can also opt for a Duo plan for Rs 149 a month and a Family plan for Rs 179 a month.
