Spotify codes explained: What they are and how to use them

In today’s world where digital music reigns supreme, Spotify has become the go-to platform for many listeners. Its vast library and personalised recommendations make it a one-stop shop for curating the perfect playlist or diving into the latest podcasts. Whether you’re crafting a killer playlist or seeking out the newest tracks and podcasts, Spotify has you covered.

But what if sharing the songs you love with others could be even simpler? Enter Spotify Codes: an easier way to share music effortlessly. Spotify codes have been around for a while now and basically act as a handy shortcut for sharing music and podcasts with fellow listeners. Here’s everything you need to know about what Spotify codes are and how to use them.

What are Spotify codes?

So, what actually are Spotify codes? In simplest terms, Spotify codes are unique, scannable codes offering a convenient way to share music directly within Spotify. Like QR codes, Spotify codes are scannable, but with a unique design incorporating the Spotify logo.

Each code is individually generated, linking to a specific song, album, artist, podcast, or even a user’s playlist. Basically, Spotify codes eliminate the need to share lengthy URLs or worry about typos with artists or song names, thus making sharing and discovering your favourite songs or albums with friends and fellow music lovers effortless, faster and more streamlined.

How to use Spotify codes?

So, now that you know what Spotify codes are, here’s how you can use these nifty codes:

Step 1: Finding the Spotify code

Open the Spotify app on your phone or tablet and navigate to the song, album, playlist, or artist you want to share. Look for the three dots (…) next to the “Like” button and tap them. You’ll then see a black-and-white Spotify code appear under the content’s image.

Step 2: Sharing a Spotify code

There are two ways to share the Spotify code. You can either show the code directly on your phone’s screen or tap on the code to enlarge it and save it as an image to your phone’s photos and then share them.

Step 3: Scanning a Spotify code

Make sure your friend to whom you want to share the code has the Spotify app installed and opened on their phone. Then, simply:
1. Tap the Search bar at the bottom of the screen.
2. You’ll notice a camera icon on the right side of the search bar. 3. Tap it.
3. Point the camera at the Spotify code on your phone’s screen.
4. Spotify will automatically recognize the code and take you to the linked song, album, playlist, or artist.

If the Spotify code is saved as an image, then you need to:

1. Tap the camera icon in the Spotify search bar.
2. Instead of “Scan,” you’ll see “Select from Photos” at the bottom. Tap that.
3. Choose the photo containing the Spotify code from your gallery.

Once the Spotify Code is scanned successfully, the app will instantly direct you to the corresponding track or content. This could be a song, album, artist profile, podcast, or even a playlist you’ve been eager to share.

Furthermore, Spotify codes can be scanned by anyone with the Spotify app, even free users. However, you can’t scan Spotify codes from the Spotify web player or desktop app and only the Spotify app can scan Spotify codes; other QR code reader apps won’t work on the code. Now that you’re a Spotify Code pro, share the music you love or discover something new – all with a simple scan!
