Sony WH-1000XM5 wireless headphones launched

When you think of premium noise cancelling headphones, the likes of Sony and Bose are among the first that come to mind. Speaking of Sony, it has brought the latest WH-1000XM5 to India. These new headphones come with a slightly tweaked design, new features, and improved ANC.

The highlight of Sony’s 1000-series headphones has been their noise cancelling abilities, and Sony says it’s better than before. For improved ANC, the headphones now come with built-in V1 processor, a dedicated QN1 HD noise cancelling processor, and eight microphones to reduce noise, especially in the mid-high frequency range.

The headphones also feature 30mm drivers, which Sony claims are programmed to offer natural sound output and a higher frequency response. There’s support for audio codecs like AAC, SBC and LDAC, upscaling capabilities with DSEE Extreme technology, and the headphones are also 360 Reality Audio Certified.

Four beamforming mics on board use AI-based noise reduction tech to make voice calling crystal clear. Support for Bluetooth 5.2 will allow users to pair the headphones to two devices simultaneously. Further aiding in the pairing process is Swift Pair technology, which helps in quickly connecting the headphones to desktops and laptops.

Sony claims the headphones now offer up to 30 hours of battery life. There’s also support for fast charging, so three minutes of charging can offer up to three hours of playback time. As mentioned, the WH-1000XM5 feature a tweaked design with a thinner headband and touch controls on the surface of the ear cups.

The Sony WH-1000XM5 is priced at Rs 34,990, but is now available at online and offline stores at an introductory price of Rs 26,990.
