Sony Bluetooth devices: How to connect and pair them

Sony is one of the top brands for audio devices and its Bluetooth devices, in particular, are among the best in the industry. They are not only great in terms of their sound quality but also the seamlessness with which they work across your devices. Whether it is Bluetooth earphones, headphones, or speakers, Sony is all about delivering the best audio experience across form factors.

However, one of the things that needs to be done, regardless of the Sony Bluetooth device you own, is to connect them with your other devices. Whether you are trying to connect them for the first time or connecting them with your umpteenth device, here’s your one-stop guide on how to connect and pair your Sony Bluetooth devices with other devices you own.

How to connect Sony Bluetooth earphones

You can connect your Sony Bluetooth earphones or headphones to an Android smartphone or iPhone, Windows or Mac using either the manual Bluetooth connection or by using the Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. Here’s how these two processes of connecting Sony Bluetooth earphones work:

1. Via the manual process

Step 1: Turn on your Sony Bluetooth earphones by holding the power button for a few seconds until the indicator light starts flashing and you hear a guide voice saying “Power on.”

Step 2: If your earphone was connected to a device before then it will connect automatically to this recently connected device. If not, it will wait to be connected.

2. Using NFC

You can connect your Sony Bluetooth device using NFC (Near Field Communication) as well. NFC allows instant, short-range wireless communication between smartphones and headphones. This is among the fastest ways to connect your Sony Bluetooth devices with NFC-compatible devices. Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Enable the NFC function on your Android smartphone or other NFC-compatible device either from quick settings or by opening the Settings shortcut.

Step 2: Now, hold your NFC-enabled device closer to the N-mark on your Sony earphones or headphones until you hear a short sound confirming that the devices are paired and connected.

Step 3: Click Yes on your phone if you see a pop-up notification to confirm the pairing.

How to pair Sony Bluetooth earphones

Many Bluetooth devices automatically go into pairing mode when they are turned ON for the first time. When you buy new Sony Bluetooth earphones, they also go into pairing mode when they are turned ON for the first time and become discoverable on your Bluetooth devices. However, if you want to pair your Sony Bluetooth earphones to a second device, you must manually activate pairing mode.

For Sony Bluetooth devices as well as other Bluetooth devices, you can simply follow the seven-second rule. You can activate pairing mode by pressing and holding the power button on your device for about seven seconds. Once pairing mode is enabled successfully, you will either hear an audio cue or see a blue flashing light to confirm that the device has entered pairing mode.

Once pairing mode is enabled, it will stay in pairing mode for a few minutes and you can follow the steps mentioned above to connect to your device. If you do not connect the device then the pairing will be disabled automatically. You can follow the seven-second rule to pair your Bluetooth earphones with another device and remember to keep your devices within 1 metre (or 3 feet) for successful pairing.

How to connect Sony Bluetooth speakers

Now, we know what you’re thinking! What about Sony Bluetooth speakers? Well, the steps to connect a Sony Bluetooth speaker with an audio source is not much different from that for Sony Bluetooth earphones and headphones. When you turn on your Sony Bluetooth speaker for the first time after purchase, the Bluetooth indicator will flash quickly. This indicates that the speaker has automatically entered pairing mode. However, if you are trying to connect with a new device then here are the steps you need to follow:

Step 1: Turn on the speaker by pressing the power button. The indicator will light up and/or the Bluetooth indicator will begin to flash.

Step 2: Press and hold the power button until you hear the voice guidance and the Bluetooth indicator begins to flash quickly. This is a sign that your speaker has entered pairing mode.

Step 3: Now, go to Settings > Bluetooth on your source device and look for the Sony Bluetooth speaker.

Step 4: Tap on the device to connect your Sony Bluetooth speaker to your device of choice.

Once you pair your Sony Bluetooth speaker with a device, it will try to make a connection with the last connected Bluetooth device when turned on. If that device is nearby and its Bluetooth is on, the connection will be established automatically. Similarly, the pairing option with a source device will only be available for 5 minutes and if the pairing mode ends, you can restart the process by following the above steps once again.
