Why Indians are using AI to plan their perfect holiday

The last few months of the year often bring with them festivities food, and of course, travel. This year, however, Indians witnessed a significant shift in their preferences way they plan their adventures.

Online travel aggregator and website Skyscanner covered several upcoming trends, top favourite destinations as well as conscious travelling as a part of its ‘Travel Trends 2025′ report.

What stood out was that 84 per cent of Indians have now embraced Artificial Intelligence to better plan their upcoming voyages. Per the trend report, Indians have turned to AI for travel inspiration, and the company predicts that the trend will only pick up pace in the upcoming years.

Why Indians are adopting AI to travel

Skyscanner’s report highlights how Indian travellers are turning to artificial intelligence as a tool for inspiration as well as comparison. Tools like OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Anthropic’s Claude have helped empower Indians to turn their ‘travel dreams’ into reality.

In its report, the company mentions how 84 per cent of Indians consider themselves confident while using AI for booking their tickets or planning. Apart from this, the trends also show that 52 per cent of travellers rely on artificial intelligence to help them research about their bucket-list destination.

As much as 50 per cent of people surveyed used AI to book flight tickets, and 48 per cent used the tools to compare their options. If that’s not all, a whopping 46 per cent also admitted to using AI for their inspiration.

Piero Sierra, the Chief Product Officer at Skyscanner, mentioned how tourists have entered a new era of travel search. He goes on to mention how “rapid developments in generative AI, travel retailing, and social shopping are changing how travellers find inspiration and compare flight, hotel and car hire options.” He concludes by mentioning that these insights are helping Skyscanner develop the next generation of search tools in the long run.

Skyscanner Report 2025 top travel destinations for Indians

The Travel Trends 2025 report also reveals the top travel destinations for Indian tourists this year. Shillong in India topped the list with an 828 per cent increase in searches. A close second was Baku in Azerbaijan, with a 744 per cent increase. Ranking third on this list is Langkawi, Malaysia, with the platform observing a 433 per cent increase in searches over the last 12 months.

Several other hotspots also made it to this list, some of which include Tromsø, Norway at number four, al-Ula, Saudi Arabia at number five, Krabi, Thailand at number nine and Tokyo, Japan in the 10th position.
