Flagship smartphones are powerful by design, and that allows for some unique use cases. While having the best cameras, the most storage and the fastest processor are great, the best part of flagship smartphones is the new use cases that the power at your disposal open up. For students and working professional, flagship smartphones can be no less than pocket computers.
One aspect you can take advantage of when you have a flagship smartphone is the ability to take your work from a different device in the ecosystem to your smartphone when you’re on the move, or vice versa. This is great for everything from a short commute to longer getaways. If you have a flagship device like the iPhone 14 or Galaxy S23, here are some ways in which you can seamlessly work across devices.
App sync
If you use select communication apps like Microsoft Teams or Slack for work, you can also download these apps on your smartphones to continue conversations, discussions and meetings. That’s not all. Having a copy of apps like Google Docs on your phone, or a work-dedicated browser like Firefox on both your computer and your smartphone will also help you keep bookmarks, accounts and passwords synced.
Office suites
Having the smartphone version of office suites like Microsoft 365 will also let your phone jump in where you left off on your college or work laptop. This could be text documents, PDFs, presentations or even spreadsheets. Most flagship phones today have enough clock speed and RAM to open even large office files, navigate through them and make changes.
Shared folders
Maintaining shared folders between your desktop or laptop and your smartphone allows you to quickly transfer files between the two, as well as access the same files from multiple devices. You can achieve this with tools like Google Drive and OneDrive. On iPhones, you can use these tools, or iCloud, Apple’s very own cloud storage service.
Other ways to connect your phone and other devices
Flagship phones are also capable of mirroring the screen of your desktop or laptop, and even exert a degree of control over the same. Here are a few ways using which you can do that on both Android and iOS.
Control your computer from your phone with Unified Remote
Unified Remote is a third-party app that lets you view and control the screen of Windows, macOS and Linux systems from your Android or iPhone. While the app is free on the Play Store and the App Store, some advanced features will require you to purchase the one-time pro-version of the app.
Setting up Unified Remote involves downloading the app on your smartphone, the Windows/macOS/Linux client on your computer and pairing them together, which you can do by following some easy, on-screen instructions on both devices. You will also have to keep both devices connected on the same Wi-Fi network.

Once done, Unified Remote lets you control basic input (keyboard and mouse control) and also comes with a File Manager to access files on the computer. A media remote allows you to control music and videos, while other app-remotes allow you controls specific to some services. Power controls also let you put a computer to sleep or shut it down from your phone.
Lastly, a screen-viewing option lets you check your computer’s screen on your phone in real time, allowing you to zoom in to check details. This basically lets you use your computer without even having it in front of you, as long as you’re in Wi-Fi range.
These are a few ways in which you can maintain continuity between a desktop or laptop, and your smartphone. You can get work done with more ease and accessibility, from the convenience of your smartphone!
