Be it on a smartphone, a television, or a tablet, setting up a wallpaper can be an overwhelming task sometimes if you have an abstract idea in your head, but no wallpaper to match it. Samsung was one of the many brands that solved this with a AI-powered Generative Wallpaper tool. Now, the feature also comes to Samsung’s televisions.
Here’s everything you need to know about the feature, what TVs it will support and more.
Samsung TVs adds generative wallpaper
Samsung Electronics announced that the Generative Wallpaper feature will be added to the 2024 Neo QLED and QLED models that are powered by Tizen OS. This new feature leverages AI to create custom 4K images that enhance the display of the TV while offering a personalised viewing experience.
The feature will be available through Samsung’s Ambient Mode, which transforms the TV into a canvas for curated wallpapers which will include useful information like weather updates, news and time.

To access the feature, users can go to the ‘Ambient Mode’ menu, select the Generative Wallpaper icon and choose from themes available, for example ‘Happy Holiday’, ‘Seize Your Day’ or ‘Party’. You can also choose visuals based on the décor of the house for an elevated effect.
Users can also create their own themes by prompting the feature on how to generate a background. By using additional keywords, it should create a unique visual that users can save and use. Check out how the feature works on Samsung Galaxy S24.
Generative Wallpaper will debut this month in South Korea, North America and Europe. It will be rolled out globally in 2025. However, there is no indication if the company is planning on bringing generative AI wallpapers to older TVs.
For your reference, Samsung isn’t the first company to implement this feature on its televisions. Select Fire TV devices received this feature in September last year and Google TV has also incorporated it earlier this month.
