Smart TVs earn the “smart” moniker because of one main thing: internet access. The internet is what enables “smart” features such as voice assistants and widgets to do their job on the TV. And of course, not to mention, you can’t watch anything on the TV without Wi-Fi.
Internet access is absolutely essential to the functioning of a smart TV, but how does one fix connectivity issues, if they pop up? Let’s look at what we’d need to do in such a situation, in the case of a Samsung smart TV.
1. Are you connected to the right network?
The first step is to simply check whether you’re connected to the right network. You can do this by heading to the Settings app and checking under ‘Wi-Fi.’

Sometimes, you might be connected to the wrong network, or to one that doesn’t have internet access. Simply switching to the right network can help.
2. Are you getting a Wi-Fi signal?
If you don’t see a Wi-Fi signal, then either your TV can’t connect to Wi-Fi for some reason, or your router isn’t able to offer a connection. First check if other devices like your smartphone are able to connect to the network. If they are, then the issue is most likely with the TV. It is also possible that your router is blocking your TV for some reason, in which case we’d recommend that you check your router’s manual on how to unblock certain devices.

If your TV isn’t able to connect, check that Wi-Fi is enabled by heading to the settings app. Also make sure that your Wi-Fi is operating in the right mode for your TV. Some TVs can’t handle 5 GHz Wi-Fi, for example, so you’ll have to ensure that your router is operating in a 2.4 GHz mode. You should also check to ensure that the TV isn’t very far from the router. TVs can sometimes use weaker antennae than the one in your laptop or smartphone, leading to connectivity issues.
3. Try resetting the TV and network
If you weren’t having network issues previously, we’d suggest resetting both your TV and router. Simply power off both devices, wait 20 seconds, and then turn them on again. Wait a couple of minutes and then try to connect. Resetting them in this fashion can usually resolve most connectivity issues.
If all else fails, try factory resetting the TV. In the case of a Samsung TV, to do the same, head to Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > Reset. Enter your login pin and your TV will now be reset. If the TV isn’t able to connect during the initial setup process, there’s either something wrong with the TV hardware or the network.

If neither of these steps work, the issue is likely more serious and will require a trained technician to resolve. In such a case, we’d recommend directly reaching out to Samsung for help.
