Samsung brings improved Quick Share to its Galaxy S24 series; here’s what this means

Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event brought forth a flurry of exciting announcements alongside the launch of its new flagship smartphones. In fact, with new AI capabilities and upgraded features, Samsung has ensured an all-round smartphone experience for its users.

Just last week at CES 2024, the brand even announced a merger with Google’s Nearby Share and paved the way for a new version under Samsung’s existing banner. This version has now been made available with the new Samsung Galaxy S24 series; here’s everything you need to know about it.

Quick Share on Samsung Galaxy S24: What's there to know?

Google launched Nearby Share a few years ago as the Android equivalent of Apple’s AirDrop. In a more recent move, it also brought Nearby Share to Windows. Similarly, Samsung also had a version of this known as Quick Share, which allowed safe file sharing between Samsung devices. However, the merger in place offers improved functionality and is now available with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series.

How will Quick Share work?

Quick Share allows users to share files across one or multiple smartphones, tablets and PCs. Like Apple’s AirDrop, it works for nearby devices but also supports far-away file sharing between contacts.

If you’re a non-Samsung user, the app still allows you to receive files using QR codes and text messages. Additionally, you have the option of private file sharing for sensitive information and you can ensure protection for your data by setting an expiry date and time on it.

How to use Quick Share on your Samsung Galaxy smartphones

Check out these steps that can help you share files using your Samsung smartphone:

Step 1: Launch the app on your Samsung smartphone and select the files you wish to share
Step 2: Select ‘Share to devices nearby’ in the list; further, tap on one or more contacts you wish to send your files to
Step 3: If your friends are far away, tap on the QR code icon and ask them to scan for easy file transfer
Step 4: Once through, the recipient will receive a pop-up with the file. On clicking accept, the pop-up will allow file transfer process

To transfer files using a Windows desktop or laptop, install the Quick Share app from the Microsoft Store. With this, you will be able to establish a seamless file-sharing connection between devices.

Unlike Apple, Android smartphones may have seemed relatively far from the idea of an Apple AirDrop-like feature. That said, Samsung’s Quick Share is certainly a close alternative that could provide a unified file-transfer solution across brands in the near future.
