Few brands can beat Apple at its ecosystem game, but if one Android rival that can come close, it is Samsung. Over the years, Samsung has built quite the portfolio across a range of devices, all of which have gradually learnt to communicate with each other seamlessly. Every year, Samsung’s new smartphones, laptops, and smartwatches find a new way for users to use the products better together, and this year, the focus seems to be on taking calls.

Samsung has just released a new app on the Microsoft Store which is essentially an extension of your Galaxy smartphone’s Phone app for your PC. The app will let users answer straight from their Galaxy Book laptops when they receive an incoming call. However, the catch is that the app may not work with every device out there.

Who can use the new Samsung Phone app?

The new Samsung Phone app is available on the Microsoft Store, Windows’ own version of the App Store or Play Store. While this means is that anyone with a Windows 11 computer should have access to the app, Samsung Phone will work only on limited devices – Galaxy Book laptops, to be precise.

Installing the application on other machines may not even let users actually open the app. The tool will also likely support only Samsung phones, which means that if you have a OnePlus, Xiaomi or Nothing phone, you’re out of luck.

For those who are invested in the Samsung ecosystem though, the app will make life easier. One of the best features of the Apple ecosystem is to seamlessly initiate and transfer communications on any device (when you have multiple devices), allowing users to do things like receive an incoming call on their iPhones from their MacBooks or iPads.

Samsung Phone app may be limited to Galaxy Book 4 series

Keep in mind though, that the app will support only Galaxy Book 4 series laptops, at least initially. These laptops are yet to launch, but if leaks are to be believed, may launch as soon as next month along with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. Whether Samsung brings the app to older devices like the Galaxy Book 3 series, for instance, remains to be seen.
