Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 Special Edition announced with big camera upgrades

We saw Samsung launch the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 earlier this year, where the new foldables had not so many hardware changes but a focus on bringing AI features with the Galaxy AI suite. Now, Samsung has launched a mid-cycle follow up to one of those two phones, and it brings some much-needed changes.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 Special Edition: What’s new?

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 Special Edition comes with a slightly tweaked design, which makes it even slimmer and lighter than the standard Galaxy Fold6, which was already the slimmest and lightest foldable in Samsung’s lineup.

The new phone comes with 10.6mm thickness when folded, and weighs just 236 grams, which is three grams lighter than the standard Fold6. When unfolded, the thickness comes to 4.9mm. The phone has an aluminium armour frame, while both the front and back glass panels offer Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection.

The outer display is a 6.5-inch AMOLED panel that now offers a 21:9 aspect ratio, offering the same usability as a regular smartphone. The inner screen now offers an 8-inch AMOLED display with a 20:18 aspect ratio.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 is still powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, and comes in a single variant with 16GB RAM and 512GB internal storage. However, there are changes in the camera department.

The main camera is now a 200MP sensor, coupled with a 12MP ultrawide sensor and a 10MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom. The front cameras are the same – on the outer cover screen we now have a 10MP front camera, while the inner screen has a 4MP under-display camera.

The device also comes with a 4,400mAh battery with 25W wired and 15W wireless charging support. The side mounted fingerprint scanner makes a comeback, and Samsung has promised to update the phone for seven years including an Android 15-based One UI 7 update early next year.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 Special Edition: Pricing and availability

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 Special Edition is priced at KRW 2,789,600 (about Rs 1,70,650) and will be available in a single Shadow Black variant in South Korea for now. It is unclear if or when Samsung plans to bring the phone to other markets like India.
