The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series, since its launch in 2019, has seen multiple iterations of foldable smartphones. The most recent is the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5. However, it’s been nearly nine months since the device launched. And now, it won’t be long before we see its successor.
Likely dubbed the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6, the next-gen foldable phone is rumoured to be launching in the coming months. This is the right time then to roundup all the rumours that give us a sense of what to expect.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6: Performance, storage and battery
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 is expected to come with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip under the hood, similar to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. However, this could be restricted to the ‘Ultra’ variant.
Yes. This year, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 may get a base and an Ultra variant. If leaks are to be believed, the former could be powered by an Exynos chipset in select markets.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 came with 12GB of RAM with up to 1TB of storage, and the Galaxy S24 Ultra too came with similar combinations. With that in mind, it won’t come as a huge surprise if the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 too comes with similar configurations.
As for the battery, the Galaxy Z Fold6 may get a (marginally) bigger 4,600mAh battery, as compared to the 4,400mAh unit in the Galaxy Z Fold5. However, the device may still get only 45W fast charging support, as is the case with most other Samsung phones. That said, it will still be an improvement over the 25W charging support on its predecessor.
Sasmung Galaxy Z Fold6: Design
A render from tipster XLeaks7 suggests that the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 will get a thinner design, albeit with a much wider aspect ratio for the external display, or cover screen. A niggle, users often had was that the Galaxy Z Fold5 was too thin in its folded state, and rivals like the OnePlus Open offered a much better experience when folded.
The inner display on the device is expected to be a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED display similar to its predecessor, with a 120Hz refresh rate, and a higher peak brightness of 2,600 nits.
Additionally, the phone is also expected to be encased in a titanium frame, again, like the Galaxy S24 Ultra, adding to its durability. Rumours also suggest that the phone will be getting flatter edges. We saw something similar on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which ditched the curved screen design of the Galaxy S23 Ultra in favour of a flat panel.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6, according to tipster Ross Young, may be made available in three colours – Navy, Silver and Light Pink.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6: Cameras
Coming to the camera setup on the Galaxy Z Fold6, Samsung may go with an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it approach,” and give it the same camera setup as the Galaxy Z Fold5.
For reference, the latter has a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 10MP telephoto sensor. There’s also a 10MP punch-hole on the outer display and a 4MP sensor hidden underneath the inner display. Interestingly, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 also gets the same setup.

However, if we do see Samsung release an ‘Ultra’ variant of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6, we may see it give the device a 200MP primary sensor, similar to the S24 Ultra.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6: Software
Coming to the software on the device, the upcoming Samsung phone is expected to come running on the Android 14-based One UI 6.1 software straight out-of-the-box. Hopefully, the device supports seamless updates, which allows for updates to be downloaded and installed in the background even as you continue to use your phone. The feature is currently available on the Samsung Galaxy A55 5G.
If Samsung’s new update policy with the new Galaxy S24 series of smartphones is anything to go by, the Galaxy Z Fold6 may also get as many as seven years of software updates and seven years of security patches as well, meaning you could potentially see use the phone up until Android 21. This, however, remains unknown for now, and whether the phone will get the same, only time will tell.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6: Galaxy AI
Good news is, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 will also likely come with support for Galaxy AI, which has a host of features including summarising documents and e-mail chains, live call transcriptions and translations, Circle to Search, suggested responses for chats, as well as image and video edit suggestions.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6: Ultra and FE variants
Rumour has it that the Galaxy Z Fold6 may also get an ‘FE’ or ‘Fan Edition’ variant, along with the top-of-the-line Ultra variant. While the fomer is expected to not get stylus support, and a slightly less powerful Exynos processor, the latter may feature a Snapdragon8 Gen 3 processor, a higher resolution 200MP primary camera, and an S-Pen dock.

However, whether an FE and Ultra variant will indeed be launched with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6, we’ll get to know only as we get closer to the launch date, which is slated for some time in July this year.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6: Tentative Pricing
The pricing for the standard Galaxy Z Fold6 remains unknown for now, however, reports suggest that it will largely be similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5, for reference, is priced at Rs 1,54,999 for the base 12GB RAM and 256GB storage variant, while the 12GB RAM and 512GB storage variant is priced at Rs 1,64,999. The top-end 1TB storage variant is priced at Rs 1,84,999.
