Samsung, at its Galaxy Unpacked event yesterday, unveiled a slew of new devices across the Galaxy universe — The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 line-up, the Galaxy Watch6 and Watch6 classic, and perhaps the most anticipated of all, the Galaxy Z Fold5.
Tech forums and social media handles are abuzz with the question of whether or not the Galaxy Z Fold5 is a worthy upgrade over its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4.
Here’s a quick comparison between the two devices to help you decide better. Read on to know more:

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 vs Galaxy Z Fold4: Design
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5’s primary display is a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, whereas the outer display is a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED display, also with a 120Hz refresh rate.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 also features a 7.6-inch inner display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 6.2-inch outer display.
Both the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 and Fold4’s displays have a 23.1:9 aspect ratio, a 2316×904 resolution. The only difference between the two is the glass used for the displays. The Galaxy Z Fold5 features a Corning Gorilla Glass: Victus 2 display whereas the Fold4 features a Victus+ display, with the former being more scratch resistant.
The biggest difference in design between the two, however, is perhaps that the Z Fold5 folds shut completely, and has no gaps between the two halves of the device. On the other hand, the Z Fold4’s hinge design left a little space between the two halves, which potentially could allow dust and dirt to collect in the device. The Z Fold5 is also slightly thinner as a result.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 vs Galaxy Z Fold4: Processor and storage
The processor is where the Fold5 offers an upgrade over the Fold4, with the former being powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, compared to the latter’s already potent Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.

Both devices, however, come with 12GB of RAM and 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options. Additionally, they also both sport a 4,400mAh battery with 25W wired, 15W wireless, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. The Fold5 however, is expected to have slightly better battery life, owing to the better CPU.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 vs Galaxy Z Fold4: Camera
Both the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Fold4 come equipped with a triple-camera set up at the rear, with a 50MP primary lens, a 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 10MP telephoto lens. The devices also feature a 10MP punch-hole camera on the outer display and a 4MP webcam hidden underneath the inner display. The difference though, Samsung says, lies in software improvements in the Galaxy Z Fold5’s system. However, how this translates into real-world performance, remains to be seen as of yet.
Is the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 worth the upgrade, then?
While on one hand, the Galaxy Z Fold5 does offer upgrades over its predecessor, the Fold4, in certain respects, the latter remains an extremely potent device, one which can be purchased for a considerably lower price now as well. However, on the flip side, the more streamlined design and the significantly more powerful processor on the Galaxy Z Fold5, do certainly make a case for it as a worthy upgrade. Either way, we love both devices all the same. Which one are you choosing, then?
