Samsung Galaxy S24 vs Google Pixel 9: What’s different?

Flagship smartphones also tend to be supersized, but most brands in the premium space now tend to offer not-so-big smartphones with top-end specifications. A couple of these options in 2024 include the Google Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S24, both of which are current-generation and come with flagship processors and camera systems.

However, both these smartphones are entry-level (relatively speaking) compact devices in their respective product lines, offering buyers not only the benefits of compact size and easy-to-handle dimensions, but also competitive pricing. We’ve compared the specifications of two of the most popular compact flagship smartphones right now – the Pixel 9 and Galaxy S24. Take a look to help you choose which one to buy.

Samsung Galaxy S24 vs Google Pixel 9: Chipset/processor

The Samsung Galaxy S24 is powered by the Samsung Exynos 2400 processor, which is fabricated on a 4nm process. This is a chipset made for Samsung smartphones and is based on the company’s own fabrication process. It’s a fairly straightforward chipset based on enhancing overall performance, and typically performs well in benchmark tests.

The Google Pixel 9, on the other hand, is powered by the Google Tensor G4 chipset. This is a custom chipset made by Google specifically for its Pixel range of smartphones in 2024, and is based on the 4nm fabrication process by Samsung. While it doesn’t quite match up to the Exynos 2400 in benchmark tests, the Google Tensor G4 has been designed to enable multiple machine learning capabilities on Pixel smartphones, including image modifications, speech recognition and real-time translation, and more.

Samsung Galaxy S24 vs Google Pixel 9: Cameras

The Samsung Galaxy S24 gets a triple-camera setup at the back (50MP + 10MP + 12MP), and a 12MP front camera. In comparison, the Google Pixel 9 gets a dual-camera setup at the back (50MP + 48MP) and a 10.5MP camera at the front.

Samsung Galaxy S24 vs Google Pixel 9: RAM and storage

The Google Pixel 9 is available in a single variant in India, with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The Samsung Galaxy S24 comes in multiple storage variants (128GB, 256GB, and 512GB), but RAM is fixed at 8GB across all variants.

Samsung Galaxy S24 vs Google Pixel 9: Display

Both the Google Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S24 have relatively compact displays, as compared to most high-end smartphones which have considerably larger displays. However, the display on the Pixel 9 is a little bit bigger at 6.3 inches, while the Galaxy S24 gets a 6.2-inch display. Both phones feature similar display technology, with the Pixel featuring an OLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz, and the Galaxy S24 getting a Dynamic AMOLED display with a similar 120Hz refresh rate.

Samsung Galaxy S24 vs Google Pixel 9: Battery and other features

The Samsung Galaxy S24 has a 4000mAh battery, with support for 45W fast charging when using the right adapter and cable. The Google Pixel 9 has a larger capacity 4700mAh battery, with support for 27W fast wired charging.

Both the Google Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S24 are rated IP68 for dust and water resistance, and are therefore said to be able to handle a fair amount of water exposure, including being briefly submerged in shallow water.
