With the launch of its latest foldables out of the way, Samsung’s next big launch is expected to be the successors to the Galaxy S23 series. While not yet confirmed, these phones are likely to be dubbed the Galaxy S24 series. Unsurprisingly, Samsung has already started work on its next flagships, and just like the years before, some early leaks have started to surface online.

Apart from the usual upgrades to internal specifications, it seems the upcoming Samsung premium phones will pack more punch than usual, especially in the display department. Here’s everything we have heard about the new smartphones so far.

Samsung Galaxy S-series: What to expect next year

Chipset

The Galaxy S23-series successors are likely to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, an upcoming chipset yet to be launched by Qualcomm. While not much is known about the chipsets yet, we could see more improvements in performance, thermals, and overall battery life. More details should be available towards the end of this year, which is when Qualcomm usually launches its new hardware.

It is also currently unknown if Samsung will stick to Qualcomm’s chipsets or will include its own Exynos processors. The tech giant opted to sell its S-series phones in India with Exynos chipsets instead of the Snapdragon chipsets until the S23 series. This year, Samsung launched new S-series devices with only Qualcomm chipsets across the globe. It remains to be seen if the trend will continue next year.

Display

Leaks have suggested that Samsung may ditch its signature curved displays in the upcoming flagship phones. The curved screens on the S-series phones (and later the Ultra variants), are expected to be replaced by flat panels. However, the thin bezels and centre-aligned punch hole are expected to stay.

The new Ultra variant is also expected to sport a 6.78-inch 1440 x 3120 panel with up to 2,500nits of peak brightness, great for binging on movies and shows when on the go.

Samsung is also expected to launch its next S-series Plus model with a high-resolution WQHD+ screen, something that has only been a part of the Samsung Galaxy Ultra phones in recent years. The move would allow users to make the most of the larger screen on the Plus models. Hopefully, a toggle will also be part of the UI, allowing users to switch back to FHD+ resolutions when they want their battery to last longer.

Cameras

Samsung’s Ultra phones have become the poster boys for zoomed shots over the past few years with optical zoom thanks to a dedicated telephoto lens. However, the telephoto lens is capped at 10MP as of the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Rumours suggest that Samsung could bump the sensor up to 50MP on the next Ultra phone, offering zoomed shots with superior detail and clarity.

Storage

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S-series flagships are also expected to offer more storage options. With the new Ultra variant, leaks suggest users will get up to 2TB storage on the top-model. That’s more  storage than most laptops today. This will be great for users who store a lot of media on their phones, as well as gamers who like to have a lot of games installed together.

More details and leaks on the new Galaxy S-series flagships should be available publicly as we head closer to the launch date, which usually takes place in February every year.
