The lines differentiating one smartphone from another is fast blurring. Most look the same, and if they are in the same price range, will offer similar experiences as well. So, when brands launch a product with a unique design element, it tends to standout in the crowd. One such product is the newly launched Samsung Galaxy F55 5G. Having spent some time with the phone at the launch event, here are our first impressions.

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G design

The standout feature on the new Samsung phone is the back panel. Instead of going with the standard glass or metal, what you get is a vegan leather panel. Choosing leather not only makes the phone standout, but the added stitching running down the side also reminds you of a premium handbag.

You can choose from two colour options – Raisin Black or Apricot Crush (basically orange). While the black is for those who prefer their phones to be stealthy, the orange variant definite catches the eye. It is just the right shade of orange, which dare I say, will remind you of a Hermès product.

The front is dominated by a 6.6-inch screen, surrounded by minimal bezels on all sides. Despite the harsh spotlights on the event floor, the display looked bright and colours vivid. The 120Hz refresh rate also made everything on screen seem smooth. Also hidden beneath the screen is an under-screen fingerprint sensor.

Powering the phone is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 octa-core chipset accompanied by up to 12GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of storage. On paper, this should be able to handle the day-to-day tasks and some games with relative ease. We will however save any judgements till we have extensively used the device.

Also worth testing is the camera setup on the phone. On the rear, you’ll find a 50MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP camera. There’s also a 50MP camera up front for selfies and video calls.

Making sure everything ticks is a 5,000mAh battery that should ideally last an entire day on a single charge. When it is time to juice up, there’s support for 45W fast charging.

With prices starting from Rs 24,999, Samsung’s Galaxy F55 5G enters a hotly contested smartphone segment. It faces competition from the likes of the Nothing Phone (2a), Vivo V30e 5G and more. That said, it does have a lot going for it, like the standout design for instance.

So, is it worth spending your hard-earned money on the new Samsung phone? We will answer that and more in our upcoming detailed review. Stay tuned!
