Samsung Galaxy A16 5G announced with support for 6 major OS updates

Samsung has announced a new budget smartphone in the global market. The Samsung Galaxy A16 5G comes with a standard Samsung design and has features like a high refresh rate display, triple cameras, and up to 2.5 days of battery life. Notably, the device gets long years of software support, somewhere along the lines of Samsung’s flagship phones.

Samsung Galaxy A16 5G specifications and features

The Galaxy A16 5G succeeds the Galaxy A15 5G from last year, and it brings a few improvements. Although the design is almost identical, the new A16 5G gets a big 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display, a tad bit larger than the A15 5G’s 6.5-inch Super AMOLED screen.

The panel has a 90Hz refresh rate support for smooth scrolling and a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels, ensuring that whatever you see on the screen is sharp and crisp. It has 800 nits of peak brightness and an aspect ratio of 19.5.9.

The smartphone boasts a triple-rear camera system with a 50MP main lens having f/1.8 aperture. It is assisted by a 5MP ultrawide lens and a 2MP macro sensor. Upfront, it features a 13MP sensor for selfies. The rear as well as the front camera is capable of recording 1080p videos, but the rear lens gets gyro-based EIS support for stable footage.

Coming to the performance, the device draws power from an Exynos 1330 chipset. This variant will be available in Europe. It also has a variant with a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset, which is limited to markets like Thailand and India.

The chipset is paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, and If you need extra storage, Samsung has offered a microSD card slot for storage expansion of up to 1.5TB. The device packs a 5,000mAh battery that is advertised to offer up to 2.5 days of battery life. It has a 25W fast charging support.

One of the major highlights of the device is the long software support. Samsung will provide six generations of OS updates, meaning the phone will get updates till 2030. The device also has an IP54 rating for dust and splash resistance.

It also has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner offering added security. The device has a USB Type-C port for charging but lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is there on the predecessor. As for connectivity, it has 5G, 4G, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, and GPS support.

Samsung Galaxy A16 5G price and availability

The Galaxy A16 5G is priced at EUR 249 (about Rs 23,000 ). It has three colour options to choose from, namely, Midnight Blue, Grey, and Turquoise. The smartphone can be purchased in European markets like France. Unfortunately, the smartphone isn’t available in India yet, but it may arrive here later.
