Introducing Samsung Find: The evolution from SmartThings Find

Samsung introduced SmartThings Find in 2020 as a free service that would help quickly and easily locate Galaxy devices. The service has now been expanded to support SmartThings-enabled tags, and what’s interesting about this service is that it even includes a geofencing feature that will notify you if your device leaves a designated area.

The app has been around for several years now and is perfectly serviceable, but earlier this year Samsung announced a replacement for that app with a sleeker, One UI-inspired app that is more attuned to Samsung’s design language called Samsung Find.

What is Samsung Find?

Samsung Find was released alongside the Samsung Galaxy S24 launch as part of the One UI 6.1 update. Soon after, it was released on the Galaxy Store and made available to all supported Samsung Galaxy devices. Besides finding the location of Galaxy devices and SmartTags, Find will also track the location of devices of family members who are sharing location data with you. You can also share the location of your devices with family members in a similar fashion.

Since Samsung Find is built on top of SmartThings Find, it essentially builds on the same features and services that the latter offers. Some of the features that have been carried over are listed below.

Additional Samsung Find features

1. Bluetooth LE and UWB support:

Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) and Ultra-wide Band (UWB) support ensure greater location accuracy while consuming much less power than other means. Devices that support UWB work especially well with Samsung Find as you can get precise directions from these devices.

2. Offline mode:

Galaxy Devices and SmartTags can be found even when they’re offline. As long as the devices have power, nearby Galaxy devices can ping the devices and relay their location to you if necessary.

3. Smart Home integration:

Another great feature of Samsung Find is that all compatible devices seamlessly integrate with Samsung’s Smart Home ecosystem of devices, including the SmartThings Hub, for a more holistic experience within the Samsung universe. This includes smart bulbs, hubs, cameras, sensors, washing machines, and more.

Samsung Find is a better integrated and better designed version of SmartThings Find. The design is more user-friendly and seamless, allowing for a simpler and more convenient system for managing all connected devices and people. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung eventually replaced all SmartThings branding with the Samsung Find branding.
