Samsung announces new BioActive sensor for Galaxy Watch7 series; here’s what they do

Days before the Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event, Samsung has announced an upgrade for its Galaxy Watch7. The brand has introduced BioActive sensors for the upcoming smartwatches, which will reportedly provide more accurate health measurements as compared to its predecessor. Here’s everything you need to know.

What will Samsung's new BioActive health sensors do?

The BioActive health sensors will primarily focus on better preventive and predictive measurements. According to Samsung, these are the three key areas where the new sensors will help.

1. Improved Photodiodes

Photodiodes essentially consume light energy to produce an electric current. The brand mentions how the new BioActive sensor will enhance the performance of light-receiving Photodiodes and double their efficiency. This will significantly bring down the number of Photodiodes from eight to four, leaving more space for Samsung to include other features.

2. New LED colours

The BioActive sensor now includes more LED colours, including Blue, Yellow, Violet and Ultraviolet. These will now be in addition to the preexisting Red, Green and Infrared LEDs currently present in the smartwatch. The addition of the new LEDs will allow Samsung to measure health metrics such as heart rate, sleep quality, blood pressure, blood oxygen levels and stress levels more accurately.

3. Better LED arrangements

Lastly, the Galaxy Watch7 will optimally position these LEDs for better accuracy and health readings. Samsung goes on to mention that the inclusion of the new LED sensors will open the doors for a lot more possibilities in health monitoring. Some of these features will also include the advanced glycation end products (AGEs) index. The AGEs index will help identify metabolic health and biological ageing based on a user’s overall lifestyle or dietary habits. It uses this biomarker to give a user an insight into their ‘biological’ age, which could help them make informed decisions about their wellness journey and healthier future.

Apart from this, Samsung also mentions how the upcoming Galaxy Watch7 series will bring in a lot more sophisticated health features that could help users reach their wellness goals.

When is the Galaxy Watch7 launching for everyone?

Samsung will launch the two new wearable devices alongside the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 on July 10. The event is scheduled to be held in Paris; however, if you’re planning to watch it live in India, the brand will livestream it on its social channel at 6:30 PM IST.
