Samsung has just announced the ISOCELL HP2, the company’s newest camera sensor. Succeeding the HP1 sensor, the new camera comes with several new capabilities and is also expected to be featured on Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S-series flagship phones which are set to be launched in February. Here’s all that’s new with the latest Samsung camera, how you’ll be able to use it, and what phones you can expect it on.
Samsung HP2 200MP camera: What’s new?
The Samsung HP2 is capable of shooting pixel binned 50MP and 12.5MP images, which can combine the light data of multiple pixels together to create an image that is smaller in size but featuring better lighting and details.

The higher pixel count also allows the camera to capture fuller 8K videos at 30 fps. Samsung also promises fast, more accurate auto-focussing thanks to a process of grouping adjacent pixels to identify horizontal and vertical pattern changes. Other improvements include better HDR performance, ISO Pro HDR support that lets the camera take 12.5MP HDR photos and 4K 60fps HDR videos.
When can you see it in action?
Samsung has said that the new HP2 camera sensor has already entered mass production. This allows the camera to be implemented on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S-series flagship phones. This includes a rumoured successor to the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which is rumoured to launch with a 200MP camera sensor.
Samsung’s new Galaxy flagships are set to launch on February 1, and that is when we expect to see the new camera in action. We still don’t know how many variants in the upcoming series will feature the new sensor, but if rumours are to be believed, only the Galaxy S22 Ultra may feature the new 100MP camera.
The sensor will go up against some of the top camera phones right now including the Google Pixel series, the Apple iPhone and the Vivo X-series.
